Colwood "Compete Street" Preliminary Designs

Project Details:
The City of Colwood Transportation Master Plan was adopted by Council in early 2016.  Adept has been providing Complete Streets design services through the last two years.  All of the design work has been based on proposed general cross section concpts that were developed by the City and Urban Systems as part of the TMP.
Specifically, Adept has completed preliminary designs for the following corridors:
  • Kelly Road - approximately 925m in leght;
  • Sooke Road - approximately 2.25km section between Wale Road and Metchosin Road;
  • Metchosin Road – approximately 2.3km section between Sooke Road and Royal Bay;;
  • Latoria Road – approximately 600m section between Veterans Memorial Parkway and Royal Bay;;
  • Painter Road – approximately 725m section between Metchosin Road and Dressler Road.
Each of design concept drawings was of sufficient detail to identify right of way acquisition requirements. If necessary.  Innovative transit stops were developed in consultation with BC Transit and were intended to minimize conflicts between cyclisys and transit buses at stops.  An eastbound exclusive transit lane option was developed along Sooke Road, fronting the future Capital City Centre development.  Connectivity to the Galloping Goose Regional Trail and other proposed multi-use pathways was considered in the designs.
The preliminary design concepts are intended to be presented for both Capital Works projects as well as for Gas Tax and other potential grant applications.
